This week a banker friend thanked me for something I said when I made a customer service presentation to his employees a year ago - “Everything Speaks”. To which I replied, “Don’t thank me – thank Walt Disney.” Spend a day at Disney and you’ll see what I mean. Everything is clean, well maintained, visually appealing and the customer service is the best there is!

What Zappos can teach us
A company that really gets it when it comes to customer service is zappos.com. They consistently rate high in customer service surveys and personally – I’m a fan! I like them because they offer products I can’t find locally with free and speedy shipping - plus returns and exchanges are never a hassle. But what I especially like about Zappos is their sense of humor!

Last Minute Ways to Attract Customers this Holiday Season
It’s not too late to drive customers to your business to do their holiday shopping! Just because your business is small doesn’t mean you can’t attract customers like the big boys do!
As the time gets shorter take advantage of technology to do so. Email and social media are the way to go! But be careful and be thoughtful because there is a lot of “noise” out there. You don’t want your message to get lost.

Building Customer Loyalty
I noticed the headlight was out on my 2002 Jetta so I took it into the dealership to replace it. My car has 130k miles on it and like all of us with a few miles on us Ms. Jetta requires a little more upkeep than a newer vehicle. While I was there they pointed out several other issues that I need to address soon.Sunday, June 20, 2010

Leave the Whoopie well enough alone!
I recently interviewed the operations manager from a local bakery that distributes products through out the US and Canada. One of their most popular products are whoopie pies. If you are not familiar with them - imagine two chocolate round cakes filled with a butter cream frosting center. There are many variations to the recipe - different flavors and sizes - but the traditional whoopie pie continues to be the most popular.Monday, June 14, 2010
When Customers (aka me) are Numb!
Yep... that would be me --- numb!I am embarrassed to admit that I recently purchased a bed frame from a local store that specializes in custom made maple frames and I completely messed it up! I had to assemble the bed. There were instructions included but I guess I thought I could figure it all out without reading the directions (that always got me into trouble in school).

When and How Much To Tip

Billy Joel sang about the tip jar “They sit at the bar and put bread in my jar”. These days seems piano men are not the only one’s with tip jars. They seem to have cropped on every counter from coffee shops to restaurants to ice cream take out and many of us wonder when we should put money in the tip charge and when we should not.

SMILE:) - It's Good for Business
I recently returned from a fantastic trip to Aruba where customer service is as much a part of the island as the sandy white beaches. Tourism is the economic driver in Aruba so being nice to tourists is key to the survival of the island. From the hotel staff to the restaurant workers to the bus drivers – everyone is so nice!Wednesday, April 7, 2010
What LL Bean can Teach us About Service
The National Retail Federation recently named LL Bean the number one retailer when it comes to providing exceptional customer service. There were a number of reasons customers voted LL Bean number one - including their liberal return policy. If you’re unsatisfied with a product you purchased at LL Bean they’ll take it back no matter how long ago you purchased it.

What A "Travelling Girl" Wants!
I’ve been spending a lot of time on line lately researching places to stay when I head to Napa Valley California next month. I’ve looked at a zillion websites for resorts, hotels and B&B’s. I recall my days as an inn owner in Bar Harbor back in the 90’s and think to myself - how things have changed.
